First, the implant post is surgically implanted in the jawbone by an oral surgeon. This ensures that your restoration is stable by replacing the missing tooth root. During a period of healing, the bone tissues bond with the biocompatible implant to form a strong foundation.

The second step is the placement of the abutment which is also placed by the oral surgeon. This is a small attachment that sits on top of the implant post.

Finally, Dr. Toups attaches the implant restoration. This replaces the crown (the portion of the tooth visible above the gums). Based on which teeth are missing, Dr. Toups may recommend a dental bridge, a dental crown, a partial denture, or a complete denture as your implant restoration.
